Female Athlete Triad
| 1. Female athlete triad is a syndrome in which osteoporosis, amenorrhea and eating disorders are included. |
| 2. It is simply known as ‘triad’. |
| 3. The triad is a serious disorder with lifelong health. It is a syndrome of three interrelated conditions. |
| Symptoms of Triad |
1. The symptoms of triad may include fatigue, frequent injuries, loss of endurance and power, increase in healing time for injuries, enhance chance of fracture etc. |
Osteoporosis:- |
| 1. It refers to decreased bone mineral density. |
| 2. In case of osteoporosis, weakening of bones occur due to the loss of bone density and improper bone formation. |
| 3. This condition may be harmful to athletes as it may lead to osteoporosis and other injuries. |
| 4. There are various factors which usually led to osteoporosis among women athletes, which are as follow:- |

Amenorrhoea:- |
| 1. It is a menstrual disorder in women. |
| 2. When a girl of 18 years and above either never began menstruating or there is an absence of menstruation for three months or above. |
| It is of two types. |
| A) Primary Amenorrhoea:- |
| It is characterized by delayed menarche which is the onset of first period during puberty. |
| B) Secondary Amenorrhoea:- |
| The stops of menstruating for three months or more is said to have Secondary Amenorrhoea. |
Causes:-

Eating disorders:- |
| 1. It is an illnesses that are characterized by irregular eating habits and severe distress or concern about body weight or shape. |
| 2. Many female athletes try to lose their weight in order to improve their performance in field of sports. |
| 3. In order to lose weight they may practice unhealthy weight control methods which lead them to various eating disorders. |
| 4. These eating disorder can be fatal. |
Types of Eating Disorder

Anorexia nervosa:- |
| 1. In this eating disorder, the person only think only about food, dieting, and body weight all the time. |
| 2. Other individuals usually feel them that are becoming thin but they do not believe this. |
| 3. In front of the mirror they see themselves obese. |
Bulimia nervosa:- |
| 1. In this eating disorder the person eats excessive amount of food and then vomits it in order not to gain weight. |
| 2. In this disorder, an individual binges on food and feels a loss of control. |
| 3. Then, to prevent weight gain, tries to vomit the food. |
